What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of therapy that blends cognitive-behavioral strategies with mindfulness practices. It’s designed to help people manage overwhelming emotions, improve relationships, and build a life that feels more balanced and meaningful.

DBT focuses on four main skill areas:

  • Mindfulness – learning to stay present and grounded.

  • Distress Tolerance – coping with difficult situations without making them worse.

  • Emotion Regulation – understanding and managing intense feelings.

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness – communicating more clearly and maintaining healthy boundaries.
